Missy is a five year old gal who has spent most of her life confined inside with an invalid caregiver. After the caregiver's death, Missy was just left alone in the house with an open bag of dog food and a bucket of water. Once in a while she was briefly checked on. By the time she reached the TLC, she had gained so much weight that she could hardly walk, and had developed the obsessive behavior of chewing on herself. Her legs were raw down to the bone and her eyes showed the early stages of cataracts. Little by little, Missy walked: first just a few steps (with help). Now she happily gets her harness on and walks. Because of inactivity for so long, her back legs tremble sometimes, but she is becoming a happy, confident gal.. Missy is a quiet, well-mannered dog who demands little. She LOVES raw baby carrots and has discovered where they are kept, so she gives a few yip, yip sounds and actually dances to get a carrot (or two). She certainly will never win a beauty contest, but she has inner beauty that shines through, and as she gains confidence, she responds to human interaction. She is non aggressive with the other little dogs, and would be a loyal, loving companion for someone willing to show her the attention that she deserves.
Little Black Hawk is a middle aged, well, almost senior. He is a very shy, very bowlegged Boston/Chi mix. Hawk would not win any Best of Show awards, but he is an absolute sweetheart. He spent his entire life with one caregiver, and when she passed away, the family no longer wanted him (or his brother Lincoln). Naturally he has been very sad and confused, but he and Lincoln depend on each other, and have adjusted to shelter life quite well. Each day seems to get easier for them, and they are becoming more confident and content. These dogs deserve a quiet, stable home where they can enjoy their golden years. They are quite healthy, and have very few demands other than a little attention and regular walks. They have lots of love to offer and would be a wonderful addition to a family with time to love them.
If you are looking for an awesome 7 pound bundle of love, Peter may be your guy. Peter is a young adult (about 3 years old) who can be either quiet or rather rowdy, depending on the occasion. He is a sensitive, active, friendly fellow who interacts well with other small dogs, but he is a typical chihuahua who is certain he is a big dog in a small body, so is not intimidated by larger dogs. Peter especially loves walks and snuggling, and would make a great companion for someone with time to spend with love him.. .
Mild mannered Rosie never really had a puppyhood....she was bred when she was just a puppy herself...and was bred at least once or twice more. She was not a companion...she was just a breeder. By the time she reached the TLC, she was a very frightened, overweight adult gal, suspicious of just about everyone and everything. Her security blanket was Carley, one of her puppies, who came along with her. Mom and pup adjusted quickly, enjoying the comfort of a warm, cozy house and the freedom to go in and out. Rosie is an energetic, lively little gal tipping the scales at l0 pounds, but she is slimming down. She gets along with other small dogs, and is slowly learning what toys are, and that humans can be trusted. Rosie deserves a quiet, stable home where she can receive the love and attention that she has missed. She is becoming quite a snuggle bug, and would make an awesome companion for someone with the motivation to help her reach her potential.
Wyatt is a handsome, very smart, delightful little guy....about two years old, he is a 10 pound bundle of love (more white than tan, although the lighting in the photos might indicate otherwise.) Wyatt was rescued from a violent domestic abuse situation, so he was naturally quite defensive when he came to the TLC...He is showing improvement every day, but he is still suspicious of new people...especially men, but once he realizes that no harm will come to him, he is a loving fellow who thrives on walks and attention. He interacts well with other dogs his size, and is quite a bundle of energy. He would make an awesome companion for a stable home with folks who have the time and patience to help him attain his awesome potential
Thunder is definitely a special needs fellow...He is blind, and needs someone to help him develop into the wonderful dog he is intended to be. He has spent his entire in a small outside outside run. He has had very little socialization, and because of his handicap, he will need someone with lots of time and patience, but he is a friendly guy who needs humans who will care for him. If you are interested in rescuing a needy guy, this might be the one for you. The reward would be loyalty and love. PLEASE CONSIDER HIM!!!!
Woof is definitely a special needs young adult fellow (about 3) who needs a special human to is able to help him develop his potential. WOOF IS BLIND, so he requires a home that has time and patience to deal with him. He has lived his entire life outside and sometimes barks for attention. He has had little socialization, but responds well to any human interaction. If you truly want to help a needy dog, please consider Woof! He would provide a loyal, loving companion!
Jack is not the most handsome Yorkie you could meet...on the outside....but on the inside, he is the greatest. He is a quiet, well-behaved, mellow guy who is still a bit confused about his lot in life. He is not a youngster....in fact, he is l0 years old, but sometimes circumstances demand changes that are not easy. When Jack found himself without a home, he was suffering from a bad case of dermatitis....his previous caregiver had repeatedly treated him, but by the time he reached the TLC, he was quite a mess. He .is still getting special baths and eye drops, but is well on the road to recovery. He is such a joy, and such a cutie with his charming under-bite. and shy, loving demeanor. Jack's demands are few.....he loves walks, but is content to just share the room with a human. He needs a quiet, stable home and would endear himself quickly to someone with time to help him complete his healing journey. Everyone loves Jack (even the resident cat!!!!) .
Variety is the spice of life, right? Well, Snowball is a feline listed at a canine center. Okay with me....Snowball is also a black cat...okay with me. Somewhere along the line, his front paws were declawed. Snowball is a young adult cat with a sparkling, friendly personality. He enjoys the company of dogs...in fact he sleeps with his girlfriend Flora Poodle. He accepts and gets along well with others, and his favorite activities include sleeping on laps, furniture, cat beds,or any other soft, comfortable spot. Looking out the windows and soaking up the sun is always acceptable ....not a picky fellow. His very favorite activity is sleeping on a lap or looking out a window. To know him is to love him.
Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice. Murphy is a survivor........a tiny little 9 pound old guy was dumped in the country. His short little legs carried him to a farm house inhabited by a Good Samaritan. He was so covered with filth that it was impossible to tell whether he was male or female, but compassion ruled, and she put him in a safe place and called the TLC. First stop was the vet's office where once again compassion ruled. The caring vet tech bathed him and cleaned him up...yes, he was a boy... Medical exam showed that for an old guy, he was basically healthy.....except he was totally deaf, and had limited vision because of cataracts. There was no adjustment period for Murphy at the TLC.....he was obviously .thrilled by a warm place to stay, cozy bed, and good food. He quickly learned to find his way around his area, and soon wanted to socialize with the other small dogs. What a joyful fellow he is......gentle and quiet....certainly not a show dog but his inner beauty shines brightly. When we discovered he was a puppy mill breeder who was deemed no longer useful, so was dumped. we understood why there were bite scars all over his body....This was.probably the first time in his life that he enjoyed safety and freedom... Murphy is a love..... and although he is an old guy with special needs, he would be an awesome addition for any one wanting a bundle of love. .
Otis is an awesome blend of beagle and pug... He is an insecure fellow whose puppy years were not happy ones. He was fearful of just about everything when he arrived at the TLC , and repeatedly tried to curl up in a far corner of his yard to avoid any human contact.. but is slowing learning that all humans are not to be avoided. A major hurdle was overcome when he actually went into his indoor space, and discovered his soft, comfortable bed. He now goes in and out and is comfortable with his pet door. Trust is slow, but each day shows progress. A mellow fellow who shows no aggression toward or canines or humans, loves to take walks.. He wagged his tail today!! He mingles with the other dogs and is learning to play with them. "Odie" would make a wonderful companion for someone with the time and patience to help him develop more confidence.
Promise is an alert, sensitive young 7pound beautiful long haired chihuahua. Very fearful and insecure when she came to the TLC, she is blossoming into an awesome, playful bundle of love. She is still somewhat fearful of new places and people, but her confidence level is improving every day. Promise loves attention and taking walks, and would make a great companion for a stable family with time to help her develop her full potential.
Levi is an awesome, handsome, enthusiastic, friendly guy with LOTS of energy. He is a mellow six month old puppy who loves everybody.....well, actually he doesn't love squirrels or rabbits......gets very excited when he sees one of those critters, and could definitely could be a rabbit/squirrel hunter if given the opportunity. Levi requires a secure fenced area so that he can't take off after some small prey....he is definitely not a tie-outside dog.....he has become quite accustomed to his heated/cooled den, and his comfy blankets (which he often drags out through his pet door). He is definitely a house dog, but he needs lots of exercise and attention. He would play fetch all day ...and he loves tennis balls (His favorite balls are red, but he isn't too fussy.) Another favorite is his half-deflated soccer ball. Levi would be a great companion for an active family with the time and energy to help him develop his full potential.
If you are interested in a 12 pound bundle of love and joyfulness, Chauncey may be just the one for you. This little guy is friendly to everyone, canine or human, although he is a small fellow who would probably not be a good match for young children.. He interacts with other small dogs and shows absolutely no aggression. He loves to take walks, and he also loves to snuggle. The family who adds Chauncey to their family will be blessed!!!
Sugar and spice and everything nice......that describes our 8 pound lovable little pom/chi mix dog, Gypsy Rose. Gypsy is a mellow mannered, fun-loving bundle of joy who loves everyone, canine or human. She interacts well with other small dogs.....since she is rather fragile, she would not do well with toddlers or big dogs. Gypsy enjoys walks, snuggles, toys, and just about everything. She is a true sweetheart, and the family who adds her to their home would be blessed.
